Working with a small group of participants over a number of sessions designed to increase strength and confidence, his workshops culminated in a choreographed performance during Pride on July 21.
Gareth describes it as;
“[Fighting 4 Queerz is about]…a taking over of public spaces, as well as a defiant show of Queer strength that challenges stereotypes of the LGBT community.
“I want to work with queer, non binary and trans folks of all genders, who feel a connection with communities largely centred around experiences of misogyny, homophobia and transphobia.”
Rehearsals were held in collaboration with St. Paul’s Boxing Academy, with the final performance then taking over spaces in the city centre as part of the Pride in Hull Parade; see more images here [scroll down until you reach the Pride in Hull gallery].
Gareth is currently working on further research and development, which will lead to Phase Two of the project in 2019.
